Goody Two(Shoes)Thousand Oreos!!
I must say that here recently I have found myself in between a stick of butter, a couple cups of sugar and a teaspoon or two of vanilla… extract. I have tried my hand at baking recently. I can’t tell you how much it frustrates me to no-end to bake. (I actually cried after step #5, 6, or 7 of this recipe.)
I would much rather cook. I can cook a plethora of soups, meats, roasts, and broil the shit out of a couple of potatoes. However, baking is just not something I am comfortable or willing to do on a regular basis.
Baking takes an hour — or two — of hands-on activity. Cooking is pretty straight-forward. Baking is all about skill. The skill I don’t have the time or patience for. I’ll do yoga. That is something that takes time and skill and BALANCE. But, let’s face it, I’m not going to stand in Tree Pose and make this recipe.
I understand I’ve made everyone all-but-want-to make this recipe. But, the aftermath (and believe me, it’s an aftermath) is all but worth it. Trust me. I would replace these truffles for my boyfriend. You know. If I was out one night and had to bake or die.
On to, OREO TRUFFLES:
1 pkg of Oreos, finely crushed
1 8 oz. tub/pkg of cream cheese. Go for FULL FAT. They are called TRUFFLES for a reason.
1 pkg. of Bakers Semi-Sweet Chocolate squares. (eight squares in a pack.)
Wax paper
A container you can cover tightly and put in the fridge for 2 hours
To make these little devil bombs of chocolate and fat-ness:
1) Finely crush a half pack of Oreos. If you have a mortar and pestle, that’s awesome. I used a glass measuring cup. You feel my pain.
2) Roll 1” balls of cream cheese (room temperature or not, you’re going to get dirty) in the Oreo dust, with or without gloves on.
3) Break, cut, chop, Kung Fu chop each block of chocolate into a bowl and microwave for 4 mins, intermittently checking to make sure it’s not bubbling or burning and maybe stirring it.
4) Dip the balls (yes I said balls) into the chocolate you just melted and place on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet.
5) Let cool for at least 45 mins.
6) Place in container you can cover TIGHTLY and put in the fridge for at least two hours.
7) Two hours later: ENJOY.
These are seriously DELICIOUS. Enjoy them. They probably require hours on the treadmill to burn them off. But, as Dover said and I did too, they’re absolutely worth it.
