Book Bait on a Hook
There’s an entry before this one where I bitch about Dover. Yes, I know. Two entries in one day, what am I thinking??
Otherwise, I wanted to get some input from you guys on what’s good to read right now? Now that I visit the library regularly, I’m on a reading frenzy. That being said, I try and check out fluff stuff, self-help and quirky reads from time-to-time. Below is a pic of the books I’ve read lately. I’d like to know what you guys are reading, not what is on the Amazon/NY Times Best Lists. Those books are requested by 100 people before me and I’m absolutely sure that I don’t want to wait six years to read one.

Here are my reviews of the following:
1) Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk (author of Fight Club, Lullaby, Choke and others) - When I read this, I thought at first that it was boring. Then it 1:30 AM and I’d read it in a day. It sort of draws you in and there’s a nice little twist at the end. Not to mention that Chuck totally writes for a man and who knew there were 65 different ways to describe men that show up to be one of 600 men to bang a retired porn star?
2) The Man of my Dreams by Curtis Sittenfeld - She (yes, Curtis is a she) wrote another book I took a month to read because I was so bored by her inane details. It’s why I’m afraid to read this book. Even though a friend told me that it was better. They are not related, but “Prep” was her first book and this is the second. Another reason why I’ve yet to read it. I’m afraid she believed the first round was successful and she’d bore me to death again.
3) Dream It. List It. Do It! How to Live a Bigger & Bolder Life, from the Life List Experts at 43Things.com - I put this book on my Amazon Wish List forever ago. I’ve used the website and it’s basis is that you can accomplish 43 things in a year. Whether you’re attempting to read more, eat less, learn a foreign language, or quit smoking. It has topics on everything you can add to your list and then blog your progress. It’s pretty cool! The book is pretty awesome too!
4) Encyclopedia of Job-Winning Resumes - Well, that’s pretty self-explanatory. I’ve even gone uber-nerd and indexed it with Post-it’s. It’s helpful. The End.
5) Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk (author of the Snuff. See: 1) - Pretty twisted and strange and not in a Bret Easton Ellis type of way. I can’t help but wonder what kind of drugs dude was on when he wrote this. He’s obviously doing something right, though. I couldn’t put it down, either.
So again, please recommend some stuff to me. After I read my latest library score, Brothel, Mustang Ranch and Its Women, I need some new books.
